The Making of a Fascinator

A hat or fascinator has the power to transform your look and your mood in seconds. Just like your favourite pair of heels, it’ll give you a little more height, a little more pizzazz and a little more confidence.

Designed in a small studio in South London, each fascinator in our new collection is created with couture millinery techniques and matches back perfectly to our exclusive clothing collection with Royal Ascot.

From flamboyant shapes with a playful eye veil to smaller, more classic designs, the fascinators are crafted to suit every face shape, outfit and occasion. We took a trip down to the studio to discover how they go from design to pièce de résistance.

Step 1

Fabric is dyed to exactly colour match our Karen Millen x Royal Ascot collection.

Step 2

The fabric is shaped, and stiffened, on blocks, to create the base of the fascinator.

Step 3

The fascinator is then fitted onto a headband. This ensures it’s comfortable and that one size fits all.

Step 4

Finally, the fun bit: the trimmings. Each is created with hand-made elements, with silk, crinoline and rouleau crafted into twists, shapes and bows for the all-important finishing touches.
